Ok so I am not a very good packer when I travel... I either take waaaay too much, or pack too many summery clothes and not enough cardigans or hoodies for those brisk evenings or I don't pack enough and wish I'd packed that other maxi dress.
I'm heading on a wonderful road trip from Melbourne to Mt Isa with a great friend who is moving up there next week. We are taking our time to check out the scenery and country towns on the way, and it just happens to be in the middle of summer (35+ degrees, in some areas 40+). I need comfy and light clothes that I can sit in a car for long days, but items that I still feel "fashionable" in.
A little over 6 months ago I was lucky enough to go to Bali for 10 days to witness my bestest friend marry the man of her dreams. While I was there I was obsessed with buying and wearing these amazing jumpsuits that I bought in Kuta (and probably most other areas). By the end of the trip a lot of my girlfriends that I travelled with ended up buying some too. These have been my summer 12/13 staple wardrobe item, you can dress them up with a pair of wedges, and a statement necklace or wear casually on a Sunday at the beach with a classic pair of Havaianas, and a top knot. Lucky for me I bought three. Two paisley patterned and a classic black, I have a feeling these will get a big workout on my trip away.
So I'm thinking, these plus a couple of maxi's (dresses and skirts), and this should be able to get me from day to night, caravan park to country pub with the help of a few accessories, and the right sandals (wedge and flat). Well I'm hoping so.
Another life saver that I have only recently found (I'm a little slow in trying this but wow, I now can't live without) is dry shampoo. Baby powder works great too, but only if you have blonde hair (I learnt that lesson the hard way: hello grey hair). I tend to just grab one for brunettes from my local chemist and I think they work just as well as the more expensive salon brands (yes, and that's probably the only time you will ever hear me say that). Spray on your roots and good bye greasy hair.
I can't wait for my holiday and will be sure to take lots of photos and blog about all our experiences on the road. Keep safe in these horrendous fires, and I would just like to acknowledge all the amazing hard work that the fire fighters and volunteers are doing to fight, protect and save our wonderful land. These men and women are our true heroes.
